Where are the flowers going?

It is the first thing worth settling, because it decides what is appropriate. Flowers for a service are built to be seen across a room and timed to arrive before it begins. Flowers for the family’s home are meant to keep, and to be easy to look after.

When comfort matters

At Selma Flower Co. we design funeral and sympathy flowers with care, intention and attention to detail. Each arrangement is created by hand in Selma using fresh, long-lasting stems chosen for color, balance and presentation. Families can choose traditional designs or softer, modern palettes, and we can customize colors to reflect a loved one’s personality or the family’s wishes.

We confirm service times, coordinate placement with the funeral home, and make sure your tribute arrives in time for the visitation or service. If you’re unsure what’s appropriate, call (919) 351-2586 — we’ll guide you through size, style and placement. Our goal is to make this simple and respectful during a difficult time.

Sending to the service or to the home?

To the funeral home or church — larger pieces that are displayed during the visitation and service: standing sprays, wreaths, casket sprays (usually chosen by the immediate family) and large basket arrangements. These are made to be seen across a room.

To the family’s home — something they can keep and care for after the service: a vase arrangement, a sympathy basket, a peace lily or other green plant, or a silk design that lasts without water. Home deliveries are welcome any time, including the weeks after a funeral, when the house gets quiet.

Funeral flower styles, explained

  • Standing sprays — a large spray on an easel, displayed beside the casket or urn. A traditional gift from friends, coworkers, churches and extended family.
  • Casket sprays — the arrangement that rests on the casket. Usually ordered by the immediate family; a half-couch spray fits an open casket, a full spray a closed one. Call us and we’ll confirm with the funeral home.
  • Funeral baskets & urn tributes — floor or table baskets for the service, and flowers designed to surround an urn at a memorial or cremation service.
  • Sympathy arrangements — vase and basket designs that work at the service or the home.
  • Plants — a living reminder that lasts long after the flowers fade; easy to take home from the service.
  • Silk sympathy pieces — lasting arrangements for a graveside, a memorial table or a family that would rather not care for fresh flowers.

Timing: deliver before the service

Funeral flowers should arrive before the visitation or service begins, so the funeral home has time to set them out. Order as soon as you know the service details. For a service today or tomorrow morning, order before 1:00 PM (Sat 11 AM) on an open business day, or call us — we always put funeral deliveries first on the route. If the service has already passed, flowers or a plant to the family’s home are just as meaningful.

How to order for a funeral home

  1. Choose your arrangement and add it to the cart.
  2. At checkout, use the funeral home’s name and address as the delivery address.
  3. For the recipient, enter “The family of” plus the name of the person who passed — that’s how the funeral home matches flowers to the right service.
  4. Choose the delivery date, and add the service date and time in the notes so we can deliver ahead of it.
  5. Write your card message (tips below). Not sure of the details? Call (919) 351-2586 and we’ll confirm them with the funeral home.

What to write on a sympathy card

Short and sincere is always right. Speak to the family, mention the person by name if you knew them, and sign with your full name — or your company, church or group — so the family knows who to thank. A favorite memory or a few words about what the person meant to you is a lovely touch. Avoid trying to explain the loss; simply let them know they’re in your thoughts.

Sympathy flower questions

Who usually sends the casket spray?

Traditionally the immediate family — a spouse, children or siblings. Friends, coworkers and groups usually send a standing spray, a basket or a plant.

Can you deliver funeral flowers the same day?

Often, yes. Order before 1:00 PM (Sat 11 AM) on an open business day, or call (919) 351-2586 so we can check the service time and fit it in.

Can I send flowers if the family asked for donations?

Many people send both. A small arrangement or plant to the family’s home is a personal gesture alongside a donation.

Do you deliver to churches and graveside services?

Yes, within our delivery area. Tell us the location and start time in the order notes, or call us to plan it.
